Homework and Helping your child with learning

At South Wootton Junior School, we believe that home learning should support and reinforce the work children do in school, without becoming overwhelming for families. Our aim is to develop good learning habits and support key skills, particularly in reading, spelling, and maths.

In addition to weekly reading and spelling, our home learning expectations are as follows:

  • Year 6 – One piece of Maths and one piece of English home learning will be set each week. These will be marked in class.
  • Years 4 and 5 – One piece of either Maths or English will be set each week. This will be reviewed in class. Children should also practise their times tables each week using Tackling Tables.
  • Year 3 – An optional home learning grid will be shared each half term (this may change in the summer term). A weekly Maths task will also be set on Sumdog. The focus in Year 3 is on reading, spelling, and times tables practice.

A copy of the weekly home learning will be uploaded to Seesaw so that both children and parents can easily access it. Where needed, printed copies can be provided.
