Welcome to Year 3!
The children have settled very well and we are so proud of them. They are looking very grown up and seem to have always been here.
We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead.
Our Topic is "Earth Matters" and will be about Earth in Space. We enjoyed a fun day at the start of term moving around classes learning lots about Space Exploration. We will find out about how the Earth moves, how time is divided up by that movement, the nature of Earth and other planets in the Solar System.
In Literacy, we are focusing on fun ways of exploring sentences, and how we talk about the way we put words together, reinforcing our knowledge of punctuation at the same time. We are reading "The Hundred-Mile-An-Hour-Dog" by Jeremy Strong as our whole class Guided Reading book. We are finding lots of exciting new words to investigate, and are beginning to know what hyperbole is!
We are taking our first steps in learning German, so "Guten Tag"!
In RE we will learn a little about Buddhism.
In Science we are observing and evidencing changes in the world around us through the year. This links well with our Topic work.
Here are a few things you may find helpful:
PE days are Tuesday and Friday.
On Tuesdays this term 3W swims and 3T has PE.
On Fridays, 3W has PE and 3T has Forest School.
This will be reversed in the Spring when 3T will swim and 3W will have Forest School.
We are continuing to find items of clothing with no names in them. Most of the clothes have a white label inside which can be written on. Please help your child to look after their own things by checking that all labels have been marked.
The children are able to keep water in class and have access to it throughout the day. We have had a few occasions already where the Home-School diaries have been waterlogged in bags. To avoid paying for replacements, please could you wrap water bottles if they share a bag with clothing or paper? Many thanks!
If you have any concerns, please contact the Office and make an appointment to see us.
We are keen to work with you to make your child's time at South Wootton Junior School a happy one.
